Flowers are one type of plant that is loved by almost all people. They make wonderful home decor as well eye-catching adornments to the outside of the home. To make flowers even more pleasing to the eye, many people choose to arrange them in beautiful and unique ways. Arranging flowers is not a difficult task to learn. All that you need is a little imagination and creativity.
The following is a list of tips and tricks to arranging flowers:
1. When arranging flowers choose the colors that you find appealing. Colors that display joyfulness and vibrancy include bright colors such as red, yellow, and blue. If you are looking for an arrangement that reflects a season such as Fall, use orange, brown and a dark deep red.
2. There are different types of flowers you can work with. You can use fresh flowers, dry flowers or artificial flowers. For the type of flower you choose, you will need floral foam. Green water-retaining foam is used for fresh flowers and flora. Brown foam is used for dried or artificial flowers. For fresh flowers, soak the foam in warm water with plant food. For dry and artificial flowers, you do not soak the foam. You just have to add glue to the foam to make sure they stick to the container that they are placed in.
3. Once you have placed the foam in the container and it is secure, place short pieces of bushy greenery along the base to cover the sponge. For dry flowers, you can use floral tape to cover the foam and lay heavy flowers along the base. For traditional arrangements, always cut your floral foam about 1" higher than the rim of the container. This will allow plants to be arranged naturally.
4. When arranging, use the largest and heaviest flowers along the base. Arrange one flower at a time. Shorten the stems as necessary. Arrange them like a pyramid or ball shape. Make sure the shape is smooth and edges even. The flowers should face outwards and at an appropriate angle. Use a knife to slant and shape the stems. A sharp edge knife is needed to make a sharp smooth cut that will permit water to enter the flower stems. Do not bunch the flowers. Fill in extra holes with some long greens. Make sure the greens don't clump together. Smaller blooms can be grouped to make a unique appearance. Group flowers freely by arranging them close to each other.
5. It is important to remember that some flowers dry up before others, so if you want the arrangement to last a long time, pick flowers that last long. Some flowers that last a long time are carnations and roses. The fresh flowers should be watered every few days, Flowers such as Baby's Breath make the entire display more stylish and striking. If some of the flowers die earlier then the others you can remove and replace them with some other fresh flowers. Scented flowers can be overwhelming in small confined areas. The dried and artificial flower arrangement should last.
6. Other additions that make the flower arrangement look elegant include corn, fruits, berries, and much more.
Arranging flowers is a fun and creative way to add life and vibrancy to a home.

Arranging Flowers,
Tips and Tricks
By Elzet Pedersen
Flowers are as essential to a wedding as the bride's beautiful dress, the perfectly decorated cake and the personally designed rings. When choosing flowers for your wedding you should take into consideration what season you are in as well as remember to be consistent throughout the different elements of your wedding that require flowers - making sure that the flowers compliment each other as well as the bride and groom's outfits. Although some couples choose to go bold and loud when it comes to wedding flowers, most still opt for the elegant and traditional white.
Before you make the big decision it's always good to ask yourself what type of bride you are. Are you looking for vibrant colors for your wedding flowers, or do you want a more subtle, conventional look with white roses or lilies? Among the top five most popular wedding flowers worldwide you'll find roses, tulips, lilies, hydrangeas and peonies. What's great about roses and lilies in particular is that they are available all year, so you don't have to worry about in what season your wedding is taking place.
Herewith some tips when it comes to the five most important elements of your wedding where you'll want to make the use of flowers - namely the wedding bouquet, the wedding flowers in your hair, the wedding ceremony flowers, the wedding reception flowers and the wedding cake flowers.
Wedding bouquet
Before thinking about flowers it might be a good idea to choose which type of wedding bouquet you want. The three most popular and well-known shapes are the traditionally shaped posy bouquet, the teardrop-shaped shower/cascade bouquet and the long, slender arm bouquet - which rests on your arm.
If your dress is white or cream you won't have a problem as any color flowers will match. But if you are going the different route and wearing a colored wedding dress, go for the same color flowers or go for a complimentary color - such as red with green, blue with orange and purple with yellow - or simply stick with white. Bridesmaids' flowers should also follow the same theme and compliment the bridesmaids' dresses. And the flower girl will be carrying a basket or bucket of petals, so remember to take into consideration which color petals you want as well. For the male members of the wedding party, use a single buttonhole flower that matches the main type of flower in your wedding bouquet.
Wedding flowers in your hair Most brides-to-be battle to choose a hairstyle for their big day. It's a huge decision which is often very tough to make, because let's face it: you want to look your very, very best! Some brides eventually decide to just keep it natural and leave their hair down - perhaps with a few loose, romantic curls. Others want to make it more formal and have a pretty updo. You could get artificial flowers to make things a whole lot easier, but at the end of the day there's nothing like the real thing. Depending on the style you go for, you can have lost of small flowers scattered throughout a formal updo, or you could opt for one large flower. Chat to your hair stylist about what will suit you and compliment your dress, and make a decision based on that. You can always try different styles before you settle on the one you like the most.
Wedding ceremony flowers If the church where you are having your wedding ceremony is quite big it's always nice to make a bold statement and use large pedestal arrangements placed where they will be noticed; at the entrance to the church and close to the altar. You can also place single flowers or small bouquets along the aisle on each row of seats. If you are having a small civil service, wedding ceremony flowers can brighten up an otherwise boring room to a great extent, so make use of your flower decorations to create a festive atmosphere. Stick with flowers you have chosen for your bouquet in order to keep it consistent and complimentary.
Wedding reception flowers A great tip for those trying to stick to a certain budget is to re-use the pedestal arrangements from the ceremony at the wedding reception. This means you will only have the wedding table flowers to take care of. You'll need an arrangement for the bridal table as well as centerpieces for all the other tables. The bridal table is traditionally decorated with a large 'long and low' arrangement in the center in front of the bride and groom. The other table centerpieces often set the mood for the wedding reception and should not prevent guests seeing each other and talking to each other, so go for something really short or really tall - where the flower action is high up.
Wedding cake flowers When it comes to wedding cake flowers you will firstly have to decide whether you want real or artificial flowers on your cake. The edible ones are always popular, so most couples go with this. You can then decide on which style you want. And if you don't want flowers on the cake itself, you can have flower decorations on the cake table or simply a few petals strewn around on the table.
It's always tricky to decide what type of wedding cake you want as there are so many options available. But if you're going the traditional route, a white cake with dainty, delicate marzipan flowers is always a winner. If you have a color scheme for all your other wedding flowers, try to stick to it. But if you feel like being different, then go for it! Whatever your choice, make sure the cake is decadent and deliciously irresistible.
These wedding flowers tips should help you on the way to making decisions for what to use on your big day. Have fun!

Choosing Your Wedding Flowers
By Jeff Cappleman
You might be surprised to know that when you give a bouquet of flowers to a Chinese person, she may pick up on a hidden meaning - whether you intend it or not.
The type of flower and the number of flowers in the arrangement have special significance in Chinese culture. Your gift of flowers says more than just "I love you." Other meanings include:"I'm sorry," or "Will you marry me?"
...So choose carefully!
And keep in mind that while many people know the special meaning, not everyone in China does. And to top it off, some Chinese people may attach a different, alternate meaning than what appears below. There is not one universally recognized meaning for each number.
So how can you play it safe? How do you make sure she gets your true intention? Easy! Just write your meaning onto the card that goes with the flowers. That way, she'll understand your message and it will match the number of flowers in the bouquet.
Before you read the examples below, keep in mind that the English phrases are sometimes clumsy or awkward sounding. Why? It's because the Chinese words are very poetic and often contains multiple sub-meanings, puns and rhythms which don't translate into English.
Chinese flower number meanings:
* 1 flower: I love only you. You, and only you, are in my heart.
* 2 flowers: In my mind, I just think of you and me.
* 3 flowers: I love you.
* 4 flowers: Promise of love.
* 5 flowers: No regrets with you.
* 6 flowers: I hope everything goes your way.
* 7 flowers: I feel happy when I'm with you.
* 8 flowers: I apologize. Please forgive me.
* 9 flowers: No regrets. Forever with you in love.
* 10 flowers: Perfect love.
* 11 flowers: Single-minded focus on your happiness. Concentrating on you with all my heart and soul.
* 12 flowers:Soul connection.
* 13 flowers: A secret admirer.
* 15 flowers: I'm sorry.
* 17 flowers: Happy ending, leaving each other on good terms.
* 18 flowers: Sincere heart.
* 19 flowers: Looking forward to being with you.
* 20 flowers: Forever loving you with an unchanging heart.
* 21 flowers: You are my best love.
* 22 flowers: (Double 2: This number is very popular in China, because a happy couple is 2 people (double happiness). Since the number 22 has 2 two's, it's especially meaningful.) In love to no end.
* 24 flowers: I miss you. I'm thinking about you.
* 25 flowers: Good luck.
* 30 flowers: Our love goes beyond words.
* 33 flowers: I will always love you...for many years, and for very long.
* 36 flowers:My heart belongs to you.
* 44 flowers: I promise my steady love for you.
* 50 flowers: No regrets.
* 55 flowers:I love you with no regrets.
* 56 flowers: My love.
* 60 flowers: Our love is very steady, strong and stable.
* 66 flowers: True steady love. Good mood.
Again, make sure you write your intended meaning onto the card that goes with the bouquet. There's a big difference between 18 flowers (Sincere Heart) and 17 flowers (Happy ending, leaving each other on good terms.) Make your meaning clear.
And if you want to create a more powerful impression? Write it in Chinese!
Want more? If you want to write the Chinese symbols, I made a downloadable PDF file for you. It has all the Chinese translations of the Chinese flower meanings, and it's designed to work on your screen or printer even if you don't have the Chinese language set installed on your operating system. You can also find the meanings all the way up to 999 flowers and beyond. Take a look at http://www.my-new-chinese-love.com/FlowerDownload

Chinese Flowers Have Hidden Messages,
Message Are You Sending in Your Next Bouquet
By D. Damore
Choosing wedding flowers for your wedding should be a lot of fun. There are plenty of flowers out there for your pick. It's important though to set a budget for your flowers so the florist can have an idea of your limit and work on that. You have to consider flowers for your entourage, the church and the reception. There's an easy way to do this. Stick to your budget and coordinate the flowers according to your color motif.
Bridal and Entourage Flowers
When choosing wedding flowers for the bridal bouquet, make sure you (the bride!) likes the flowers. What good will the beautiful bouquet be if the bride hates the flower? Choose the flower that you like and work on that. After deciding the color and the kind flower, choose the style of arrangement that you like. There's the posy bouquet, cascading bouquet, the sheath bouquet or any combination thereof for your choosing. For the bridesmaids and maid-of-honor, smaller bouquets reminiscent of the bridal bouquet or flower balls will do. Choosing wedding flowers for the little flower girls is easy. Give them small baskets or bags filled with petals. Corsages for the mothers of the couple, grandmothers and other female sponsors should also be themed. It is usual to pick orchids or roses. You have the option to get wrist corsages instead of the usual one. It is best to choose boutonnieres that are small and unobstructive as you do not want to overwhelm your male entourage, the groom included with big bushy flowers on their chests.
Church and Reception Flowers
There is nothing more beautiful than walking down the aisles bedecked with fresh flowers. Choose inexpensive flowers to decorate the church. Make sure that the church flowers compliment the whole entourage's theme. Fresh flowers for the altar and at pews' end would look wonderful. It's not really practical to use the flowers in the ceremony used for the reception. How in the world do you expect pews' end flower arrangements become centerpieces for tables? Transporting them to the reception area would be added responsibility and work too. Simple yet elegant centerpieces are ideal for the reception. You do not want big bulky arrangements that would prevent the guests from seeing each other.
Choosing the Flowers
Choosing the flowers for winter weddings will not be flower-less as there is a variety of flowers that are available the whole year. Flowers that are available the whole year through are: Gerberas, Roses, Lilies, Freesia, Tropical flowers like Anthuriums and Orchids. You could also consider the white amaryllis for your bouquet. Spring weddings will have options of tulips, ranunculus, hyacinths, Queen Ann's Lace, roses and gerberas. Mix-matching these flowers would definitely give your arrangements a burst of colors. Summer weddings will have no problem in choosing the flowers for the occasion as many flowers are in bloom. Additional flowers in bloom are columbine, blue delphiniums, irises and gladioli. Fall bring in another set of wonderful flowers to choose from. You can choose dahlias, hydrangeas, chrysanthemums, kniphofia.
If the seasonal flowers are not for you, then choose the old favorites that are available the whole year round.

OK, now you have your wedding plans made and you are thinking about the decorations. You will need wedding flower centerpieces for the church and for the reception tables. There are a lot of different types of flowers that you can use; there are silk flowers, crepe paper flowers you can buy or make, real flowers, and then there are mulberry paper flowers.
The silk flowers can be bought singly or already made up into centerpieces. You can buy the single flowers in super centers, craft stores, and some floral shops. The wedding flower centerpieces that are already made up you can purchase at floral shops, specialty stores, and on the Internet websites.
Real flowers can be purchased the same way either singly or made up already. The only problem with real flowers is unless they are kept cool and damp they will wilt and die and so they are not easy to keep for any length of time.
Crepe paper flowers can be made by you or family members and can be used over and over for other special occasions after the wedding is over. And they will not wilt or die if they are made in advance of the wedding.
All you will need to do is make several of the flowers you are using for your wedding bouquets etc. and then get some pretty vases or other containers that you think will be pretty to show off your flowers add some small pebbles, sand, or small marbles to the containers and put your crepe paper flowers in these then add some greenery to fill in around your flowers and there you have a beautiful wedding flower centerpiece made by you.
These paper flower centerpieces can be recycled or reused if kept in a safe dry area for years to come. So this makes them eco-friendly too.
You can make mulberry paper flowers out of mulberry paper or you can buy them already made up either as just a single flower or in bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, or wedding flower centerpieces etc. The easiest way is to buy your flowers already made.
If you want to buy the flower that is already made and then make your own flower designs this is also a way to make them less expensive to save on your wedding budget. And they will not take as much time to do. All you need to do is buy some of the mulberry paper flowers get a container that will compliment your wedding add some type of filler for the container such as Styrofoam, small rock, sand, or small marbles and then add your flowers and greenery in the design of your choice.
These centerpieces will be your own unique design so you can take the credit for all the compliments that you get on how wonderful the beautiful wedding flower centerpieces look and you can be proud of your creations.
Mulberry paper flowers can be purchased on the Internet as single flowers as I have stated or they can be bought already made up into centerpieces. There are several web sites that sell mulberry paper flowers make sure you check out a couple of them to find the flowers that you are looking for.

Wedding Flower Centerpieces

What is the cheapest way to send flowers to someone over the internet? Ordering flowers online has quickly become the preference of choice over calling a florist. Have you ever called a florist and gotten a vague description of what they can send for $50 - $100, given an address and wasn't so sure what your friend or loved one would be receiving?
Well those days are gone and over if you order flowers over the internet. You can view hundreds of bouquets for all different price ranges and will have a pretty good idea (whew) of what the person you are sending flowers to will be receiving. If you are going for saving the big bucks on flowers, there is a sure fire way to order something simple, that is attractive and very reasonably priced.
Online flower retailers offer fresh flowers cut from the farm and shipped in a box. The recipient will receive the flowers usually the next day if ordered by midday, usually 2 pm is the cutoff and the flowers will arrive in a box. You can send a vase to arrange the flowers in.
We recommend if you are going to send fresh cut flowers, there are several options available to you, some are riskier than others. Here is a list of options for fresh cut flowers that arrive in a box direct from the grower or flower farm:
Fresh cut Roses - Great option, fresh roses are easy to arrange, and usually arrive with greenery, they are in a box with flower preservative to add to the water, and an optional vase. Here is the key: roses are easy to arrange and look great in even a plain vase, and if they come fresh from the grower, they will last and last. They also come in beautiful colors, including red roses, yellow roses, white roses, cream colored roses, fire and ice roses (brilliant pink roses with white edges) and pink roses, light pink or dark pink. A popular idea for graduation is to order royal blue dyed roses, and again they are fresh, easy to arrange and they will last.
A Daisy Bouquet - This is also a very affordable option. Daisies are beautiful and they usually arrive in a big bunch in a box with a flower preservative to add to the water, and an optional vase. Daisies look great no matter how your display. Daisies are also very hearty plants, they will last for a long time. They also look great in any vase. What a customer is likely to see on floral ordering websites is the traditional white daisies. The other type of daisies are Gerbera or Gerber Daisies these come in vibrant colors and usually greenery. They are also hearty and long lasting.
Alstroemeria Bouquet - This is a beautiful and colorful flower. It is usually shipped in a large bouquet with complimentary greenery, optional vase and flower preservative to go into the water. Alstromeria is very affordable and is also used as a complimentary flower in large floral bouquets.
Our basic advice on cost savings for ordering flowers online delivered in a box is this: This is a cost effective option for sending flowers. Try to send a bouquet of one type of flower (most popular ones listed above, you can be assured that these will all look good and will be long lasting). Be sure to order by 2 pm EST in order for next day delivery.
Mailflowers.com offers florist-arranged flowers, gift baskets, and same day delivery, too.

Crepe Paper Flowers,
Meaning
By Rock Lewis
When identifying a flower shop, it is important to keep the following things in mind:
Quality of flowers
When selecting a flower shop, ensure that the quality the flower vendors delivers is good and the flowers are fresh. If the flower vendor has his own flower garden just next to his shop, it is a positive sign. You can be assured of the freshness of the flowers since they would be freshly picked from the garden.
Many flower shops sell roses and many other varieties of flowers which they plant in their home garden. The florists then pick and choose the flowers.
Delivery on Time
Check with the flower delivery shop about the time of delivery. Check whether they would be able to stick to their timings. When delivering flowers, timing is imperative. Check for the timings regarding when they would be picked from the garden and when they would be delivered. Check for the type of vehicle which would deliver the flowers.
Varieties of Flowers
Enquire about the different varieties of flowers which the flower delivery stores deal in. Most of these shops have daffodils, tulips, orchids and roses. The florist should also know to select the variety of flowers depending on the occasion. He should have a fair knowledge of the varieties of flowers to suit special occasions.
Reference checks
Check with friends and relatives about the quality and the delivery time. You could also check for flower delivery stores who undertake decoration for special occasions because they are the more professional ones. You could also locate for a flower delivery store that has their independent flower plantation.
Flower Arrangement
When it comes to flowers, both freshness and the way the flowers are arranged and presented play an important role. The flower delivery stores should appoint smart and creative designers who arrange the flowers in a presentable and elegant manner. There are some designers who are experts in arranging flowers and their creativity results in beautiful and attractive bouquets.
Before settling for a flower delivery store, make all the enquiries. The internet would not give 100% accuracy as regards freshness. So it is advised that you make personal visits to the flower shop and trust only your nose and eyes. When you pay a visit to the shop, you would then be assured of the freshness, the health of the flowers in the shop and other things which otherwise would have slipped your eyes and attention.
Check whether the shops have the practice of refunding back the money if the flowers are damaged and spoilt. This means if you receive drooped and not so fresh flowers, you could always return the flowers and not pay for the same. Once you are totally satisfied with the enquiries you made, settle for a shop which is truly professional and you are happy with.

Ordering Flowers
By Christina Nielson
Canada is renowned the world over for it's impressive variety of wildflowers and habitats. The sheer variety of flowers found in Canada is partially due to the vast expanse of land and the extreme variations in climate and habitat found across the country. At some point in their esteemed history, each province or territory in Canada has adopted an official flower to represent and symbolize their region. That being said, the official flowers for each province or territory are not necessarily unique to that particular area.
Alberta first selected their official flower back in the 1930's. The Wild Rose (rosa acicularis) was selected to be the official provincial flower by a group of school children. The Wild Rose is a large, pink, fragrant flower that grows predominantly on rocky mountainous slopes. The Wild Rose, however, can be found in various areas of Canada.
British Columbia designated the Pacific Dogwood as their provincial flower in 1956. The Pacific Dogwood, or cornus nuttallii, produces clustered cream coloured flowers which bloom in the spring and produce bright red berries in the fall. It's worth noting that the Pacific Dogwood is a protected species in Canada.
Manitoba also allowed school children to select their provincial flower. In 1906, the Prairie Crocus was selected to represent the province of Manitoba. The Prairie Crocus, or anemone patens, is lavender-coloured and blooms in the early spring; often before all of the snow has melted.
New Brunswick deemed the Purple Violet their provincial flower in 1936, at the request of the provincial Women's Institute. The Purple Violet, or viola cucullata, is a stemless flower that starts to bloom in May and continues throughout the summer months.
Newfoundland / Labrador adopted the Pitcher Plant as their official provincial flower in 1954. The Pitcher Plant, or sarracenia purpurea, has a large wine-red flower with a red and gold centre. It grows primarily in marshland and bogs, and was shown on the Newfoundland penny coin in the 1880's. It is worth noting that the purple Pitcher Plant is the only member of the genus to inhabit a cold temperature climate.
Nova Scotia's official provincial flower is the Trailing Arbutus, which is commonly known as the Mayflower. It was made official in 1901, and it's pale pink and white blossoms flourish in the springtime months from March until May. The Mayflower, or epigaea repens, is a spreading shrub from the Ericaceae family and is known for it's lovely fragrance.
Ontario selected the White Trillium as it's official flower in 1937. It is generally found in deciduous forests and woodlands, and is easily recognizable by it's while, three-petalled flowers. The White Trillium, or trillium grandiflorum, is a protected species in Ontario provincial parks.
In 1947, Prince Edward Island adopted a member of the Orchid family as it's provincial flower. The Lady's Slipper, or cypripedium acaule, flowers in late May and is commonly found in moist, shady woodlands. It is easily recognized by it's lovely pink flowers, and is characterized by it's slipper-shaped pouches.
The predominantly French-speaking province of Quebec chose the Madonna Lily as their provincial flower. It was initially chosen due to it's likeness to the Fleur-de-Lis on the provincial flag. Ironically, this flower is not native to Quebec. In 1999, the provincial flower of Quebec was changed to the Blue Flag Iris. It is commonly found in marshes, meadows and along stream banks throughout the province.
Saskatchewan selected the Western Red Lily, or lullium philadelphicum, as their official flower in 1941. A protected species that grows in semi-wooded areas and meadows, the Red Western Lily produces distinctive orange and red blossoms in the summer months of June to August. It is also featured on the provincial flag of Saskatchewan.
The Northwest Territories provincial flower is the Mountain Avens; otherwise known as dryas integrifolia. It was selected in 1957. It produces small, white flowers and is quite common in the northern tundra of the NWT. It flowers in the springtime, and grows in barren, rocky areas in full view of the sun.
The territory of Nanavut chose the Purple Saxifraga as their flower in the year 2000. Otherwise known as saxifrage oppositifolia, it is easily recognized by it's bright purple star shaped flowers which appear shortly after the snow disappears for the season.
The Yukon Territory selected the Fireweed as their floral emblem in 1957. The Fireweed, or epilobium angustifolium, produces small clusters of dark pink flowers. On average, the stems on these flowers range from three to seven feet tall. Their peak season ranges from July to September.

the Canadian Provinces
By Dana Plazyk
Silk flowers are so common and so diverse nowadays that it is sometimes difficult to sketch a historical picture of their origins. However, it is important to know where silk flowers started their journey into mankind's heart to really understand why these flowers hold such an important place in modern décor. The word "silk" is actually a broad term for any artificial flower created using conditioned fabrics, silk or not.
Many believe that since the nomenclature of "silk" was added to these artificial flowers, these flowers were first developed in China following the technology of extracting silk from pupae of silk moths. The veracity of these claims is still not entirely confirmed, as the indigenous Chinese people did create a diverse amount of silk-based craft, one of which could have been the first silk flower.
Although artificial flowers have existed throughout history and include ancient Egyptian flowers made out of papyrus, the recorded period of silk flowers begins in the 18th to the 19th centuries when Europeans wished to preserve the fleeting beauty of real flowers. Paris, the birthplace of many art forms, is also believed to be the birthplace of the modern silk flower. The first flowers were either made of crepe paper or silk fabric. The tradition of folding crepe paper into flowers is still taught in many art and craft schools around the world, being easy to learn. However, it is, as all other craft, very difficult to master. The silk fabric could easily be folded into a flower that could retain its shape for a long period of time if done properly.
In the early 20th century a large amount of research was performed on polymers and polymer-products which would eventually revolutionize the flower world. Celluloid became a promising raw material for recreating exquisite blooms in the 1920's when Japanese craftsmen became very versatile in the art. However due to its flammable nature, celluloid was soon banned from common use. In its place foam and other products soon crept their way into the silk flower industry and colored foam sheets as thin as petals were to overshadow crepe paper flowers. A small segment of traditional artists still folded real silk flowers, but these were very expensive compared to the foam flowers. Nevertheless, the accuracy and realistic look of silk flowers was rarely to be found with the foam flowers.
However, this was not the end of beautifully crafted artificial flowers. Recent advancements in technology have paved a new path for silk flowers. Cotton and polyester blend fabrics that are as soft as silk, while being a little more resistant to wear and tear have now become the base for artificial flowers of all kinds. These hold dyes and textures equally well and are cheaper to produce than real silk while retaining all the properties of real silk. The future of silk flowers now rests upon the advancements to these conditioned artificially produced fabrics and mold injected PVC. Even so, the silk folding craftsmen around the world still hold the true secrets of folding silk flowers perfectly, recreating the beauty of real flowers.
For over 20 years Dana Plazyk of http://www.flowers-by-design.com has searched for high quality silk flowers that best mimic nature. Her quest has proved to be worthwhile as Flowers By Design continues to discover, stock and offer for sale the most life-like artificial flowers in the market. Real touch flowers are the latest advance in this craft, as seen on [http://www.flowers-by-design.com/shop/Real%20Touch%20Flowers.html]

The History of Silk Flowers
By Laura LeMond
Sending flowers for a funeral or memorial service and is one of the oldest traditions dating back thousands of years. One of the most appropriate ways to express your thoughts for the family of the deceased is to send an appropriate funeral arrangement.
Common questions:
When should I send flowers? Flowers are traditionally sent to the location of the funeral (usually a funeral home, mortuary or church). The timing here is that you need to send them in time for them to be positioned before visiting hours, so that they make it to the funeral site.
Should I send flowers to the home? You are always welcome to send flowers to the family home up to a month after the funeral, so that the family can view them in private. This a very comforting gesture for friends and family of the deceased, when they have more time to see the flowers.
What are the most appropriate types of flowers to send to where arrangements have been made for the funeral?
If you are sending flowers where they will be present with the viewing, it is a good idea to send a more traditional sympathy type of arrangement. The flowers will be designed in an easel spray, basket or some type of fan shaped design. You may also send a flowering plant. There are lots of options available.
What are the most popular flowers for funerals and memorials?
The most popular flowers are traditionally gladiolas, chrysanthemums, lilies, roses and carnations, any personal flowers that you like can be added as well.
Does color matter? Any flower color is appropriate, but many times the softer colors are popular for funerals, including soft pinks, yellows, lavender and white.
Be sure to attach a card, so the family knows who sent them.
Here is a list of flower arrangement definitions:
Spray - Flowers which are put onto an easel stand, they can have different shapes, like a triangle for example. The flowers are visible from the front of the spray only and are usually position close to the loved one.
Wreath - Wreaths represent the circle of life and can be displayed in a number of ways.
Casket Spray - This is the large spray of flowers on top of the casket, and the family usually arranges for this bouquet.
Floral Arrangement - an arrangement of fresh flowers, they can be sent in a vase or some type of other container.
Floral Inside Piece - a small arrangement designed to be placed inside the casket, such as nosegay or little spray of flowers.
If donations to a charity is requested, should I make a donation instead of flowers, if requested by the family?
It is nice to do both things, make a donation and send flowers, but personal preference if of consideration here. During this time, emotions run high, and it is a very tumultuous and grievous time for the family. Flowers are a great way to express your deepest sympathy and love. This visible sign of support will always be appreciated by the family. It is a traditional and appropriate way to say you care.

Questions and Answers

At such times, sending flowers that express sympathy is probably the best possible solution. Sympathy flowers are floral tributes that can express sympathy to someone who has lost a loved one or has gone through some unfortunate experience. You do not really know what words can help express your feelings during such unfortunate events. Also mere words may not be enough. Flowers can help convey your feelings in a better way.
There are different types of flowers that express sympathy and condolences. When you hear about the loss of a dear one in a family or among friends, the shock can be numbing. You are at a loss for words. What can you say or how can you express yourself? Probably by sending a floral wreath or a cross or a basket. There are different types of flower arrangements that can be chosen specially to express sympathy.
In every religion, sending flowers to the bereaved family is accepted. The timing, however, has to be right. Generally there is a viewing period of one to three days, depending upon the religion of the person. You can time the delivery of your sympathy flowers accordingly. They express your feelings and give comfort to the receiver who understands how much you think of them. You can send the flowers to the family home or during the funeral service. Sympathy flowers can also be sent weeks after the tragic event. It will tell the near and dear members of the passed person that you still think of them. There is no hard and fast rule regarding when to send sympathy flowers. But if you send them at the right moment, they will have the desired effect.
Also, it is not necessary that the deceased has to be a person. Even a dear pet's death can be consoled and sympathy flowers sent to the owner. This will be truly appreciated. Sometimes broken marriages or affairs also call for sympathy. If you are very close to such a person you can send sympathy flowers. But you should make sure that the flowers will be welcome and not be the cause of more heartache. Sometimes just a bunch of flowers or even a plant can help comfort the person and make them feel loved.
Often in the case of death, florists are aware of the rules of the funeral service and will be able to advise you on what to send and when. Bouquets can also be customized, which helps give a personal touch to the sympathy flowers. There are many types of flowers and cards that can be chosen to help you deal with this sensitive matter. The color of the flowers chosen is also important. Although white flowers are preferred other colors are also acceptable if they are tastefully arranged. You can add a suitable card or a small note to convey your feelings, and let your flowers do the talking.
What To Do When You Receive Sympathy Flowers
If you have lost someone close to you, you are likely to be inundated with sympathy flowers and cards and you will then have to go about acknowledging and thanking all those who have thought of you during your difficult time. After all, these people have taken the time, the trouble and the expense of sending you floral sympathies when you have gone through an unfortunate event, and it is only natural that you respond to them. You may be busy with other preparations, or you may not be in the mood or frame of mind to write long letters. You may be receiving a lot of flowers and cards, and you may feel overwhelmed and not know what to do. Also, your bereavement may be too recent for you to be able to think clearly or focus on secondary matters.
The best way of acknowledging sympathy flowers is by displaying them in your house or at the funeral parlor, or even in a public place like a church. You can also display them at the graveside. Displaying floral sympathies is not really necessary but it is nice to acknowledge them. The sender will know that you have acknowledged their offering when they visit you. If there are too many floral tributes, then you may not be able to display them. You can choose to send a note or a thank you letter once you are comfortable enough to do so. People will understand what you are going through and will really not expect you to acknowledge their wishes.
If you have received many sympathy flowers and cards from a group, like your workplace or church or school, then you can send a short common thank you note to the organization and request them to display it so that everyone can see it. You can send a short thank you note or a card to each sender of sympathy flowers personally, if there are a few senders and you are close to them. As soon as you receive the flowers you can make a note of the name and address, or ask someone to keep track of the name and the address of the sender. When you are comparatively free and in a better frame of mind, you can sit down and pen a message or just a thank you note and send it to the person. People will appreciate it, though they may not really expect you to do so.
You may not want to send different notes to all the people, unless you really want to personalize each message. You can make one common note and send copies to all. You may also send email messages to the people who have taken the trouble to sympathize with you in your time of need. If you are composing thank you notes and printing them, you may like to sign them yourself to add that personal touch. If thinking of what to say or write is not really what you want to do, you will find readily available thank you cards at card shops which you can purchase. Besides being able to save you the task of composing acknowledgments, buying ready made thank you notes will also save a lot of your time.
Order Sympathy Flowers Online In A Jiffy
You would have surely ordered flowers for many people before; for your loved ones on their birthdays or maybe for your friends at work. And it's so easy. You can do it from wherever you are; from home, office or even a nearby cafe. Celebratory floral wishes do not require a lot of effort or research.
But what do you do if someone you know passes away and you want to send flowers to the family, or worse, it is someone in your immediate family? There are so many things that you need to organize. Flowers are going to be just one more thing on the list. There are ways that you can get everything done though. You can order sympathy flowers online and you can even have a look at various pictures to choose what you want to send, since you obviously cannot see them physically when ordering online.
If you have a local flower shop that you've always done business with in the past and they have an internet option for shopping, it would be the best way to go. You have already built up a customer relationship with them and you know their style and how they handle their customer service or issues, if any have ever arisen while you have dealt with them in the past. By ordering your flowers or gifts online you will be able to pick something that comes from the heart at that instant, without spending time to shop around.
There are several pros to shopping online. You are able to compare and draw a contrast between the different arrangements that are on offer, figure out which flowers are in season, or look for schemes. Maybe the person had a favorite colour or flower. You could incorporate the same into the arrangement. You can also do price comparisons when shopping online. If you know what you want, you can go to each site, put in exactly what you'd like to order, and get the price right there without facing any pushy salesperson. Or once you have done your comparison shopping online and you are ready to do the ordering, you can also call the shop of your choice to make sure they have the exact idea of what you want done.
And with any pros, you'll always have some cons. One problem with picking sympathy flowers online is that there is always a chance that the order may get mixed up. In situations such as deaths or accidents sending the wrong type of flowers can be disastrous. Another advantage of dealing with local vendors is that if something does go wrong for a reason, you can call them up and talk to them or have things fixed before they cause a misunderstanding.
When someone passes away or is going through a really rough time, it's always difficult for everyone involved, right from the immediate family to friends and colleagues. Sympathy flowers are a way to remember the beautiful times that you shared with that person, or to convey that you are with them through all that they encounter in their lives.

So, you are thinking about starting a new flower garden, but don't know where to begin? Perennial flowers make an excellent choice for a beautiful flower display, but in order to create a garden with the most impact, there are many factors to consider before planting your perennial flower garden.
Site Selection
When selecting a site for a perennial flower garden, you should be certain that it receives enough sunlight. Most perennial flowers thrive on six hours of sunlight a day or more. If you are stuck with a shady place, however, you can still grow some perennial flowers. You will just need to be careful of which varieties you choose, and make sure they are shade tolerant.
You also need to consider soil quality and drainage in your proposed perennial flower garden site. Avoid planting in areas with an abundance of weeds, as they will compete with the perennial flowers for needed nutrients and water. You should also avoid areas that have poor drainage. While perennial flowers will be able to survive in a wet area for a short period of time after a rain or watering, they will not survive in an area where there is standing water for long periods of time. Ideally, the soil in your perennial flower garden site will also be fluffy and rich, but if not, try to incorporate sufficient compost into the soil before you plant your flowers.
You should also consider foot traffic and children and pet play habits in the area you are considering establishing your perennial flower bed. Try to avoid planting your perennial flowers in an area where they will be trampled underfoot.
Flower Selection
Perennial flowers come in a wide array of colors, shapes and types, and the perennial flower gardener may quickly be overwhelmed by choices. One tip for making your flower selection is to consider how colors combine. Try not to choose flowers whose colors may clash (such as orange and pink), and instead focus on complementary colors in your garden (pinks and blues often make a beautiful combination).
You should also consider the height of different flower species. Try to make sure a tall perennial flower you have selected does not hide a smaller one behind it.
Finally, pay attention to the blooming period of the perennial flowers you are selecting. Most perennial flowers have a short blooming period lasting from two to four weeks, and for maximum impact you should coordinate the blooming periods of different perennial flowers.
Growing Habits of Perennial Flowers
If you are starting your perennial flowers from seed, you should be aware that it is unlikely you will see any flowers during their first year of growth. This is because most perennial flowers will put all their energy into root and plant growth during the first year, but during the second year (and future years) you can expect a beautiful display. If you do not think you have the patience to wait a full two years to see flowers, consider planting some annuals with your perennials so that you will have some color in your garden during the first year.
You can also try using transplants you first year, in order to get your perennial flower garden off to a quick start. If you decide to use transplants, try to select plants that are not in bloom when you plant them, since this is not a good time to establish them in your garden. Also avoid transplants that have pale or yellow stems and leaves. Try to do your transplanting on a day which is relatively cool and overcast for the best results, and be sure to water the plants well after transplanting and continue watering until the plants have become well established.
Although starting a new garden can be a challenge, by following the few suggestions outlined above, you should be well on your way to creating a beautiful, and long lasting, perennial flower garden.

Celebrate Mother Day,
Mother Day Flowers
By Rosemary Grace Brooks
Floriculture is the horticultural practice of cultivating and growing plants for gardens, fresh flowers for the cut-flower industry and in pots for indoor use. Horticulture involves the science of flower and plant cultivation and in floristry uses biochemistry, physiology, plant breeding and crop production, always looking to produce better quality plants and increase their ability to resist environmental impact.
The floral industry relies heavily on floriculture to provide quality, ornamental blooms for aesthetic decorations in homes, gardens and flower bouquets. Floriculturists or flower farmers also develop new plant varieties by practicing plant breeding. Plant crops are usually herbaceous (they lose foliage after flowering) and are manufactured using pots or trays known as cell packs through use of controlled methods. Popular flowers produced are poinsettias, azaleas, orchids, chrysanthemums and roses as well as foliage plants for interior use.
Floriculture is responsible for providing most of the world with plants, flowers and shrubs. Sprawling cities and developments make finding varieties of flowers and plants growing naturally a very difficult task, and when flowers are seen growing, they are usually blooms which have been cultivated by floriculturists. Floriculture brings the best of nature to an everyday household or office.
Ornamental Plants
Ornamental plants certainly live up to their name. These plants are produced at flower farms to be used domestically in homes and gardens for their pretty and appealing flowers, pleasant fragrance, interesting leaves and particular stems and bark. Landscapers frequently use ornamental plants for creating interesting and often unusual displays of these appealing blooms, as does the cut-flower industry. Unusual features are often considered fashionable in these plants.
House Plants
House plants are grown for decorative value for indoor use in domestic settings and other interiors such as offices. These plants provide a host of benefits to a room that are not only décor related, but also intrinsic to health and the environment. These plants produce oxygen and clean the air, providing a purer indoor environment. "Sick Building Syndrome" is a common complaint amongst office staff as computers, air conditioners and other office equipment causes an increase in toxins in the air which then lurk in the interior environment.
Fatigue, coughing, a sore throat, dry skin and headaches are all symptomatic of this syndrome but the addition of plants to an interior space can reduce symptoms by approximately 30%. Floriculture provides a multitude of tropical and semi tropical plants which comprise the majority of house plants sold, even in countries without warm tropical conditions.
Bedding Plants
Bedding plants are assortments of flowering and vegetable plants, both annuals and perennials which are resilient to colder temperatures and harsh weather conditions. Floriculture and the scientific expertise of flower farming produces bedding plants which are most resilient to these conditions and can breed plants which are hardier for longevity. Geraniums are a good example of bedding plants as they can withstand frost. Despite losing their flowers in winter, they regain them the following spring. These plants bring colour to a garden in dull parts or where there are no other flowers.
Cut Flower Industry
The cut flower industry is an extremely popular and successful branch of floriculture. Flower bouquet stores or florists world-wide provide millions of deliveries of cut flowers, arranged in bouquets, posies, displays and baskets to customers for a variety of occasions. Different methods are employed by floriculturists including specific pruning styles and spacing techniques. After flowers have reached the correct growth for harvesting, they undergo chemical preservation treatments and packaging.
Cut flowers are sold in florist shops, supermarkets, petrol stations, through street vendors and most popularly, through websites where customers can order their flowers online from brochures on the website. The products available from these retailers are quite remarkable as they are arranged by highly trained professionals, skilled in the art of flower arrangement. Flower arranging or floral design involves the use of materials such as cut flowers, grasses and other foliages which are arranged in a spectacular display in bouquets, pots, baskets and vases.

Looking for a safe and reliable way to send a gift? Fresh cut flower deliveries are a popular solution. Why not send a bouquet of fresh cut flowers as a gift? Flower deliveries are reliable, good quality and very easy to send.
Fresh cut flower deliveries are a meaningful gesture as florists employ various techniques to keep the flower as strong and long lasting as possible. Floriculture is the division of horticulture dedicated to growing flowers for gardens, interiors and the cut flower industry and the science has produced long lasting, unique and high quality flowers.
Large greenhouses and crop fields of flowers provide the millions of flowers needed per year to fulfil order requirements.
Keeping flowers fresh
Fresh cut flowers are guaranteed for delivery within 24 hours of the order being placed, ensuring that the product is as fresh as possible. Such a service will be able to prepare and deliver the gift to the recipient on the same day, if the order is made before 12h00. These restrictions are in place to ensure that fresh cut flowers are delivered in their best possible condition.
Correct details
To ensure that flowers arrive at their destination on time, making a correct order is extremely important. Incorrect details supplied to the florist will affect the speed of delivery. When making a flower deliver order, it is important to make sure that every detail such as the spelling of the recipient's name, their address and a convenient time for delivery is correct. If incorrect, the flower delivery service and florist cannot be held responsible for an order not received. The service will leave a note for the recipient to contact them, however, the flowers will be delivered at a later time (when the recipient contacts the delivery company). Despite incorrect details, an online florist will replace old flowers with new ones, ensuring that the flower delivery is always as fresh as possible.
International flower deliveries
A florist will usually offer international flower deliveries, a welcome option for those sending a gift to a distant location. International fresh flower deliveries are generally available for delivery to any location in the world. With modern communication technology, scientifically proven preservation methods and a reliable delivery service, fresh flowers can be ordered and delivered to their destination the following day.
Online florists
Online flower retailers are an easy method of ordering flowers, paying and tracing the delivery. Florists' websites are generally very informative, user-friendly and have secure payment facilities. Extensive catalogues, information on flowers and how to care for them should also be featured on any florist website. Following the flower care advice from the site should enable your fresh flowers to stay in the best condition possible for longer.
Opting for a fresh flower delivery as a gift will ensure that when it reaches its destination the product will be in excellent condition. Flowers will remain fresher for longer when purchased from a reputable florist. Provision of correct details and proper care of the plants will also help with the longevity of the flowers.
Fresh flowers have always been a well-loved choice of gift and it is now possible to have the freshest flower arrangements delivered timeously straight to the door of the recipient.

Fresh Cut Flower Deliveries
By Karissa Marsetti
Flowers are a big part of many weddings. There's the quintessential bouquet for the bride, as well as those for her bridal party, boutonnieres for the groom and his groomsmen, corsages for the mothers, and many brides choose to also have decorative flowers both at the ceremony and the reception.
When you look at this list, you can see that selecting the right flowers for your wedding is no small decision. To help you along, here are a few tips that will guide you in making sure the flowers you choose will be perfect for your special day.
First, Think About Flowers that Have Meaning to You
Your wedding flowers should have personal meaning for the two of you. By incorporating your favorite flower(s), or flowers that have special memories for you and your fiance you can ensure that the flowers at your wedding will feel personal.
Then, Consider Your Wedding Colors and Your Gown
When thinking about your ideal flower arrangements, you'll also want to consider the wedding colors you've selected. You don't want there to be a contrast between the bouquets and the dresses for example, or the table linens and the centerpieces. Because of this, you've got to know what everyone is wearing and the color scheme of your reception before you make your flower selections.
It's also important that the flowers you choose go with your gown. The bridal gown is thought by many to be the centerpiece of the entire wedding, and the flower arrangements need to go along with the style and look of the gown.
Don't Forget to Take Into Account Your Ceremony and Reception Needs
You'll want to also consider the location of your ceremony and your wedding reception. Depending on the location of both, you'll have different floral needs. For example, you won't need nearly as many flowers if you're having your ceremony in a botanical garden or outdoors, as opposed to a family home or at a church. The same is true for your reception location.
It's also important to have an idea of your guest list so you know how many tables you'll have at the reception. This will help you decide what you want to do for centerpieces on the guest and bridal tables and how many arrangements you'll need.
During the reception you may also want flowers in other locations around the facility besides just the tables. Take some time and really look at your reception location while thinking about flowers. This will help you make a lot of decisions about what your flower needs are as well as what types of arrangements you want where.
Now, Take a Look at Your Budget
While most have fantasies of their perfect wedding, reality dictates that it's got to fit into your budget. Know what you're spending on what, and how much you have for flowers specifically. It's also helpful to know if you have any "wiggle room" with your flower budget, or is it a must to stick to a certain dollar amount for your flowers and/or your wedding as whole.
Having a firm understanding of where all of your money is going for your wedding will allow you more freedom in making decisions about the flowers. Can you cut costs somewhere else so you can get those fabulous lilies you really want? Or, maybe you absolutely have to make some concessions about the flowers in order to pull off the other parts of your wedding that are also important to you.
One of the ways to cut flower costs is to try to stick to flowers that are in season. There are ways to find any flowers you want at any time of the year, but the easier the flowers are to get, the more affordable they'll be. Of course there may still be a certain flower you just have to have. But even balancing that in an arrangement of more seasonal flowers will still help you save money, and often make the "must have" out of season flower financially feasible.
Preparing for your wedding day is a very special (and often stressful) time. With these tips, selecting your flowers will be a fun experience instead of one that causes your upset and problems. Then, on the day you say "I do" you'll be able to look around at all the beautiful floral bouquets and arrangements knowing that the flowers you chose helped to add a personal touch that you, and everyone else, can really appreciate and enjoy.
